The Vineyard will be open during the Arts Festival, but the streets around us will be closed to motor traffic. Parking behind the store is not available Saturday through Monday and we will not be making any deliveries. But please feel free to visit us if you're in Cherry Creek North for the Festival. Here's what members of the 'Discovery' program are receiving for April: 2007 Red Tree Petite Sirah Although it is not related to the Syrah grape, the Petite Sirah varietal is somewhat similar in its weight, texture, and subtle notes of black pepper. This offering from California brings all that spice and adds luscious layers of ripe wild raspberries and blackberry jam. Vineyards certified by Salmon-Safe plant cover crops around their vines, plant trees and shrubs in riparian zones, and avoid using dangerous chemicals in weed an...d pest control. Through their hard work and dedication, these vineyards protect the watershed from run-off of soil and harmful organic and petrochemical fertilizers. One of The Vineyard’s favorite wineries, Oregon’s Tyee Wine Cellars, not only makes a number of delicious wines, but also happens to be Salmon-Safe. 2005 Conde de Valdemar Crianza $20.00 2005 Conde de Valdemar Crianza, one of our favorite red wines from the great Spanish region of Rioja. Made mainly of the Tempranillo grape, with a small splash of Mazuelo, the wine is rich and generous in style, with classic notes of blackberries, roasted plums, cherries, all topped off with complex notions of earth, cocoa, and baking spices. The term ‘crianza’ means that the wine received a certain amount of barrel and bottle aging before being released, and in the case of the Conde de Valdemar, that time came to more than a year in oak and six months in the bottle. The result of all that time is that the wine developed a silky texture, beautifully balanced tannins, and a long, mellow finish. Although it’s a fairly ‘serious’ wine, the great price turns it immediately into an everyday sipper, and it’s particularly well suited to the kinds of food you’d serve for the first cookout of the year: burgers, grilled sausages, ribs, and pork tenderloin. posted: March 24, 2010 |
